NYAKE'S

LIFESTYLE TIPS

A hair regimen for him

I am one of those people who believe that everyone needs to take care of themselves. Apart from diet and environmental factors, I think our daily habits and products we expose ourselves to plays a huge role in our lifestyle challenges in later years of our lives… Thus, I cannot fully over emphasize the need to be aware of each and every aspect of our lives no matter how tiny the detail. I often get remarks from guys who see my blog and are like, “what does hair have to do with us?” In this post we talk about how guys can take care of their hair as well. You can already guess that I already and still am encouraging B to really take care of himself as well.

I am working with an assumption that most of the guys have a TWA (teeny weeny afro) that’s anywhere between scalp and about six inches of length. So it is basically easy to manipulate and pretty stress free as it were and requires little to no styling at all. I also assume that you have been washing your hair with your body wash, or bar soap every single day and perhaps applying some Vaseline on your scalp. We are about to change that. I am not suggesting that we buy an arsenal of products similar to your wife’s/ girlfriend’s collection, but that you switch a bit of your habits. I want to guarantee that you will definitely notice a difference.

  • Quit washing your hair every morning with soap. Whatever soap you are using or shampoo when used daily only serves to dry our hair and also causes us to lose the shininess (lustre) of our hair. Instead of using soap every day, switch this with either water only or a conditioner wash (co-wash). This leaves your hair more moisturised. Alternatively ditch an everyday wash and reduce it to two to three times a week. Reducing your wash days reduces exposure to hygral fatigue and in the long run your hair feels more moisturised

  • Switch up your Vaseline/ petroleum products with olive or coconut oil. These are easy to find and relatively cheap. Also you can use them on your body as well. When getting the oils, opt for food grade ones, this way you may avoid petroleum products that may serve to block your pores.

  • Get a spray bottle. It will help you comb your hair in the morning. Just put water, some oil, glycerine and your conditioner and shake well. Then spray on your hair before combing in the morning. Then come tell me how your hair feels.

  • Use a comb with wider teeth as your hair gets longer, that way you will have less pain, lose less hair and get the job done.

  • Massage your head two to three times a week it helps get your blood flowing to your head and scalp.

A sample regimen will look like this:

DAILY:

  • Spray your mix from the spray bottle on your hair.

  • Apply your natural oil.

  • Comb hair with a relatively wide tooth comb (whatever size you are comfortable with

WEEKLY:

  • Wash your hair with soap or shampoo at most once a week

  • Conditioner wash or water only wash your hair 2-3 times a week (optional)

  • Massage head 2-3 times a week at the very least.

It’s that simple. Do try it and have me know…

Cheers

Nyake.
